Earl Sweatshirt‚ whose real name is Thebe Neruda Kgositsile‚ is a South African-American rapper and record producer who emerged from the Los Angeles-based rap group Odd Future. He became a cult figure after his mother sent him to a Samoan boarding school in 2010 when she discovered his music and drug use. The "Free Earl" campaign that followed his departure only intensified the pressure on him to be exceptional.
