Reputation: Known for its vast, flexible, and decentralized distribution network, allowing it to remain dominant despite the arrest of major leaders.
Power: Responsible for a significant portion of synthetic drug smuggling into the U.S. and has a global footprint, including in the Philippines and Europe. Reputation: Historically known for unprecedented, "shock and awe" savagery (beheadings, torture).

Status: While highly fragmented, their splinter groups (such as the Cartel del Noreste) remain extremely violent and are involved in ongoing conflicts in Tamaulipas.Designation: In February 2025, the U.S. designated CJNG and the Cártel del Noreste (a Zetas splinter) as Foreign Terrorist Organizations.
Sinaloa Infighting: A civil war has emerged within the Sinaloa Cartel between the "Chapitos" and "Mayo" factions following the arrest of Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada, leading to a 400% rise in homicides in the region.
Fentanyl Crisis: Both major cartels are driving the fentanyl epidemic, using Chinese Money Laundering Networks (CMLNs) to launder profits
