Insomnia : Insomnia is a persistent sleep disorder characterized by difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking up too early, which results in poor sleep quality despite having an adequate opportunity to sleep. This lack of restful sleep leads to distress and impairment in daytime functioning, such as fatigue, mood disturbances, and difficulty concentrating. / Extra: Difficulty with sleep: This can be trouble initiating sleep (initial insomnia), waking up during the night and having difficulty returning to sleep (maintenance insomnia), or waking up too early in the morning (early waking insomnia).
Daytime impairment: Because sleep is disrupted, people with insomnia often experience negative effects during their waking hours. These can include fatigue, irritability, a depressed or anxious mood, memory and concentration problems, and a higher risk of errors or accidents.
Adequate opportunity: A diagnosis of insomnia is only made when the sleep problems occur despite a person having enough time and a suitable environment for sleep.
