-Rabies is a fatal viral disease that affects the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord). It is primarily transmitted through the bite or scratch of an infected animal‚ such as a dog‚ bat‚ raccoon‚ or skunk. The virus multiplies in the wound area and eventually travels to the brain‚ causing inflammation and severe neurological symptoms. Rabies is nearly 100% fatal once symptoms appear‚ and there is no known cure.
