About This Group
The lake of fire as mentioned in the Bible is a purifying flame‚ not a place of endless torture.

When Saint John talks about the lake of fire and sulphur‚ he is implying a place of purification‚ like a furnace‚ or crucible. The Greek often translated to "torment" is basanismos‚ which has 2 meanings? interrogation to produce confession‚ and a touchstone used to test the purity of metal.

Interestingly‚ sulphur was used in metal refining in these times‚ and this same lake of fire is called a furnace of fire. (Matthew 13?42/50) and punishment is called unquenchable fire‚ in relation to baptism in fire (Matthew 3?11-12.)

In Matthew 3?12‚ it's described as burning chaff from wheat. The common interpretation of this is that the chaff are the unsaved‚ and the wheat is the saved‚ but actually‚ the wheat and chaff are the unsaved. Chaff is apart of the wheat plant‚ they are the same‚ but chaff is the undesirable part‚ and is burned away. The wheat is all that's left behind of the crop.

In the same way‚ God burns the sins out of unbelievers‚ and allows them to confess with a pure heart‚ for God is a refiner's flame (Malachi 3?2-3‚) and all people will eventually confess (Phil 2?10-11 Isaiah 45?23.)Which ultimately saves (Romans 10?9.)
