About This Group

I believe that we are the foremost nation in the world‚ and that the greater the extent of the earth we occupy‚ the greater the benefit to humanity. I am convinced that we must expand the territories of our Empire‚ for every acre thus added signifies the birth of more Englishmen. Consider the stars you behold above at nightthose vast worlds forever beyond our reach. Were it within my power‚ I would annex those planets; the thought often recurs to me. To see them so radiant‚ so distinct‚ and yet so infinitely distant fills me with a deep and solemn melancholy.
