About This Group
1. It ruins wireless streaming.
Visual noise wrecks wireless VR streaming by breaking compression algorithms that rely on stable image data. Animated noise prevents the encoder from reusing information across frames which ma*sively increases compression artifacts. Even worse‚ film grain is often used in very dark worlds which already suffer from heavy compression artifacts. Film grain not only makes your world more difficult to look at‚ but also makes UI elements like nameplates and menus harder to read.

2. It doesn't make sense in VR.
Film grain was created to mimic flaws in old film stock or noisy digital cameras. On a flatscreen game you can sometimes excuse it as a camera's perspective‚ but in VR the viewpoint is your eyes. Random static doesn't belong there. Even in scenarios simulating visual snow in dark areas‚ it's always way too strong and overwhelms the scene.

3. It causes eye strain.
VR is already much more prone to eye strain than real life. Adding animated noise that covers your entire vision is a direct recipe for eye fatigue and headaches.

4. It's performance heavy.
The majority of VRChat players are already hardware-bound. Film grain may not be as heavy as bloom or SSAO‚ but it's still a per-pixel fullscreen effect running every frame. The performance lost is rarely worth the atmosphere gained.
