About This Group
The Bible is˸
A collection of 66 books that were compiled well after they were all written.
Written over a 1500 year period.
Written by over 40 authors who for the most part‚ didn't know each other‚ and couldn't have known each other.
Written in 3 different continents and 3 different languages.
Asia‚ Africa‚ Europe; Greek‚ Hebrew‚ Aramaic.
Despite the time and distance between most of the authors‚ the Bible is˸
The most well preserved text in history.
Substantial manuscript preservation˸ Lots of manuscripts‚ high consistency with each other‚ and consistently and reliably translated.
Proven unchanged over the course of 2‚000 years aside from minor translations of certain words.
One of the most historically proven texts in history backed by many outside sources˸
Josephus; Tacitus‚ the Roman historian; Pliny the Younger‚ a Roman politician; Phlegon‚ a freed slave who wrote histories; Thallus‚ a first-century historian; Seutonius‚ a Roman historian; Lucian‚ a Greek satirist; Celsus‚ a Roman philosopher; Mara Bar-Serapion‚ a private citizen who wrote to his son; and the Jewish Talmud.
Despite the amount of time between the writing of the Bible and now‚ we have˸ 15‚000 early manuscripts of the new testament.
5‚800+ in Greek‚ dating back to as early as the 2nd century. This is earlier and more plentiful sources than what we have for many confirmed historical events.
Example˸ The A*sa*sination of Julius Caesar (44 BC)
Sources˸ Multiple contemporary Roman historians‚ including Cicero (a witness)‚ Suetonius‚ Plutarch‚ and Ca*sius Dio.
Manuscript Gap˸ Earliest copies from ~9th century AD‚ but consistent records confirm the event.
And 66‚000 manuscripts of the Old Testament.
