About This Group
The Gnostics were religious mystics who proclaimed gnosis‚ knowledge‚ as the way of salvation. To know oneself truly allowed gnostic men and women to know god directly‚ without any need for
the mediation of rabbis‚ priests‚ bishops‚ imams‚ or other religious officials.

Know what is in front of your face
and what is hidden from you
will be disclosed. - Gospel of Thomas

Key Aspects of Gnosticism
Reincarnation?
Many Gnostic sects believed in reincarnation as a means for the soul to ascend spiritually and escape the material world‚ which they viewed as corrupt and created by a lower deity (the Demiurge).

Belief in God?
Gnostics believe in a supreme‚ unknowable God (the True God)‚ distinct from the Demiurge‚ who created the physical world. The supreme God is seen as purely spiritual and beyond human comprehension.

Spirits‚ Angels‚ and Demons?
Gnosticism includes a rich cosmology of spiritual beings.
Archons are powerful entities often a*sociated with the Demiurge‚ acting as oppressive forces that trap souls in the material world.
Angels and other higher beings a*sist in guiding the soul toward enlightenment.

Souls?
The human soul is believed to be a spark of the divine‚ trapped in the physical body.
The goal is to awaken the divine spark through gnosis (spiritual knowledge) and ascend back to the realm of light (pleroma).

Knowledge and Salvation?
Salvation in Gnosticism comes not through faith alone but through personal spiritual knowledge gnosis of one's divine origin and the true nature of the universe.

Dualism?
Gnosticism is often dualistic‚ emphasizing the stark contrast between the material world (seen as flawed or evil) and the spiritual world (pure and divine).
