Hailing from Boston‚ Ma*sachusetts‚ they debuted in the early 2000s‚ switching through styles before focusing on a melodic hardcore sound that helped push the breakthrough 2015.

Their band name is derived from the fictional substance ice-nine from the science fiction novel Cats Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut.
