Constantly checking their appearance in the mirror‚ Comparing their appearance to others‚ Avoiding social situations‚ Performing repetitive behaviors like excessive grooming or skin picking‚ and Seeking rea*surance about their appearance.People with BDD may believe that minor or non-existent physical features are serious defects. They may have a strong conviction that others are noticing‚ judging‚ or talking about their perceived flaws. Treatment? counseling‚ antidepressant medication‚ and cognitive behavioral therapy.Impact. BDD can be very upsetting and have a big impact on a person's life. People with BDD may seek out numerous cosmetic procedures to try to "fix" their perceived flaw/s. These surgeries can actually worsen their distress. People of any age can have BDD‚ but it's most common in teenagers and young adults. It affects both men and women.A mental illness involving obsessive focus on a perceived flaw in appearance. The flaw may be minor or imagined. But the person may spend hours a day trying to fix it. The person may try many cosmetic procedures or exercise to excess.
