About This Group
The CH-196 Griffon is the designation of the average Bell 412EP helicopter built for the Royal Aviation of Canada by the commercial division of Bell Aircraft‚ a subsidiary of the American group Textron. Coming into service between 1995 and 1997‚ CH-146 is a versatile platform used in a multitude of roles‚ including utility and tactical transport‚ recognition and attack‚ research and rescue‚ and other helicoptered support tasks.

Two griffon configurations exist? the tactical transport utility helicopter (HUTT)‚ used for tactical support to the army‚ and a version equipped for research and rescue. Modular‚ the griffin can be provided with a frontal scanning infrared optronics‚ a Wescam gyrostabilized imaging system‚ and a powerful projector [1]. It can also be modified with floors and armored seats and equipped with a Browning M2 or FN Mag machine gun; These changes were made‚ among other things‚ in eight helicopters deployed in Afghanistan in 2008.

Depending on the type of mission‚ the griffin‚ capable of a maximum speed of 260 kilometers per hour‚ can transport up to ten pa*sengers‚ an infantry combat group of 8 soldiers and their equipment‚ or 6 aeromedical civilians [1]. Partial disa*sembly allows the helicopter to be transported over long distances by a Lockheed CC-130 Hercules (1 helicopter) or a Boeing CC-177 Globemaster (3 helicopters).
